Welcome to Causeways Learning Partnerships

The kids are back in school! Phew. As a parent, the Monday after Labor Day is always the time for a big exhale.

As many of you know, after 20 years as an independent school leader and educator in New York, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, I launched Causeways Learning Partnerships last year to help parents and schools. Today, I’m writing to share an update on my work to improve parent-school partnerships and to extend an invitation to join my first cohort of executive coaching groups for parents.

For Schools: Causeways Learning Partnerships

"I don't know that anybody gets into teaching to deal with parents! And yet, parent partnership lies at the heart of how well we can make a difference for our students. Sarah has taken the time to learn about what is going on in our school context, including who our parents are. She has brought a wealth of knowledge, as well as a wealth of resources, to help us restructure our home-school partnership with the school as the senior partner."

- Tara Hofherr, Associate Head of School, Kingsley Montessori School, Boston, MA

The mission of Causeways Learning Partnerships is to create a world where all children flourish. We improve relationships between parents and schools through executive coaching, professional development, and parent workshops so parents and schools can spend more time on children.

Today’s school leaders are tasked with promoting a cohesive and inclusive sense of community, rebuilding trust, and increasing retention and enrollment. In advance of the November election, school leaders and parents alike are struggling to hold our communities together in the face of unprecedented polarization.

Causeways offers leadership team training, faculty professional development, executive coaching, and crisis consultation to support school leaders in training their teams to navigate this unprecedented time. Using the latest edition of Hopes and Fears: Strengthening the Relationship with Today’s Independent School Parents by Michael Thompson and Robert Evans as a core text, we work with school leaders to create custom learning plans for your leadership teams and faculty.

I've enjoyed connecting with many of you already and learning about the specific dynamics at your school. Please reach out if you'd like to learn more about Causeways, or set up a call!

For Parents: Causeways Executive Coaching Groups

In addition to my work in schools, I’ve been working with parents one-on-one as an executive coach. Through that work, I’m noticing how lonely people feel and how valuable it can be to have a thought partner while navigating the complexities of balancing parenting, leadership, service work, caring for aging family members, and more. We are all struggling with the same challenges – How do I decide what to do next? What can I say “no” to? Should I watch the football practice or prepare for the board meeting?

In the coming weeks, I’m excited to offer an opportunity to join my first executive coaching group for parents. My idea is to bring together a small team of 3-4 individuals, all navigating the complexities of balancing work, family, and personal growth. We’ll meet once a week for 10-12 weeks to share experiences, gain new perspectives, and hold each other accountable for our goals.

Please let me know if you know someone who might like to join! Just reply here and I’ll follow up with more details.
